Scientists have reinforced recyclable plastic with carbon nanotubes with a ring

These characteristics are preserved after four cycles of remelting and processing of the composite material. An additional increase in the number of nanotubes does not improve the properties of the material: it is not the quantity that is important, but the covalent bonds between the nanotubes and the polymer. Ring molecules on nanotubes also prevent them from sticking together into large agglomerates.

Creating plastics that are as durable as carbon fiber but recyclable is an important step towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable plastics. For example, the production of lighter cars and airplanes will save fuel.
